From then on this film was a barrage of wonderful scripting the adaption being perfect in its pacing and wit , characters, acting, events, costumes, action, suspense and romance. I really didn't appreciate this film until the second viewing. It holds back information from the audience, it reinforces the way blind vengeance can backfire, it explains why Dantes is enthralled by the young man even though he doesn't understand why, and it adds jeopardy to the duel scene which is lacking a bit in the original. The audience laughed with genuine awe as each new moment or detail was revealed to us in the plans of the main character's played perfectly, from his innocent beginnings to his scheming later years steps towards that end. To have everything usurped from you only to take it all back twenty fold is not only intriguing, it is absolutely diabolical and gives you a sense of power.
